Wintergames historyOli vuosi 1979 kun selasimme lukemattomia koirakirjoja löytääksemme sen "oikean" rodun. Lopulta teoksesta KOIRAT -SUURI TIETOKIRJA, toimittanut Sir Richard Glyn, löytyi kuva tervuereninpaimenkoirasta, Am. Ch Ami de Chateu Blanc. Siinä se oli!

Mutta vasta vuonna 1980 muutettuamme omaan kotiin oli meillä vihdoinkin mahdollisuus ottaa oma belgianpaimenkoira. Halusimme tervuerenin ja uroksen. Mutta sinä vuonna ei ollut syntynyt yhtään tervuerenpentuetta. Ainoaksi vaihtoehdoksi jäi näin ollen groenendael. Sillä hetkellä oli vapaana koko Suomessa ainoastaan kaksi narttupentua, toinen Kuopiossa ja toinen Kouvolassa. Koska Kouvola oli lähempänä Tamperetta, varasimme pennun SOKERIKUONON -kennelistä. Ja niin sunnuntaina, lokakuun 5. päivänä 1980 meille muutti 8-viikkoinen musta groenendaelpentu, SOKERIKUONON BRIAROSA "Riuska". Hän valloitti sydämemme ja hänestä tuli paitsi uskollinen ystävämme ja kilpakumppanimme,niin myös WINTERGAME -kennelimme kantanarttu.

Ajatus urosbelgialaisesta jäi vielä kuitenkin kytemään ja niinpä kevättalvella 1981 varasimme groenendaelpennun VALKOHAMPAAN kennelistä. Heinäkuussa 1981 meille tuli VALKOHAMPAAN CHAMPION "Samppi", yksi Suomen voitokkaimmista belgialaisista niin näyttely- kuin käyttöpuolella. Ja kun on ensin yksi belgi, niin kohta niitä on...   

Ensimmäinen tervueren, FRANCY DU PARC DE PATHYVEL "Veera", tuotettiin Ranskasta yhdessä kennel Sokerikuonon ja kennel Belgeleen kanssa vuonna 1990. Veera on ensimmäisen tervuerenpentueemme emä.

Vuonna 1996 sijoitimme I-pentueestamme Intermilanan Juvakan Erjalle. Erjan ensimmäinen groenendael oli Samppimme poika, Shylock, joka syntyi 1985 (emänä Of Nocturno Bijou). Vuonna 1994 Erja otti H-pentueesta Hat Trickin, joten tunnettuamme toisemme jo hyvin, oli Intermilanan sijoittaminen hyvältä tuntuva ratkaisu. Tästä alkoikin onnistunut yhteistyö, jota on jatkunut jo 10 vuotta ja jatkuu edelleen. Erjan luona ovat syntyneet kasvattimme L-pentueesta eteen päin. Lisäksi olemme tuoneet yhteisomistuksessa olevan nartun Kanadasta, Picxie de Lescaut, joka asustaa Erjan luona. Erja harrastaa aktiivisesti eri PK-lajeja, TOKOa, agilityä ja näyttelyitä.

Rotuna belgianpaimenkoira on täyttänyt kaikki odotuksemme. Kauniin ulkomuotonsa lisäksi saimme myös uskomattoman monipuolisen käyttökoiran. Olemme belgialaisillamme harrastaneet kaikkea mahdollista; näyttelyjä, tottelevaisuuskokeita, valjakkohiihtoa, agilitya, pelastuskoiratoimintaa, palveluskoirakokeita. Erityisesti palveluskoiraharrastus (kilpailut, tuomaritehtävät) on vienyt lähes kaiken vapaa-aikamme, joten kasvatustoimintamme on ollut hyvin pienimuotoista. Tavoitteenamme on koira, jota voi käyttää ja näyttää. Toivomme, että kasvattimme ovat antaneet perheilleen yhtä suurenmoisia yhdessäolon hetkiä kuin olemme omien koiriemme kanssa saaneet kokea - olipa kyseessä sitten kilpailut, kokeet, näyttelyt tai vain ihan kotikoirana olemalla.

It was the year 1979 and we were browsing through numerous books about dogs to find the right breed. Then finally we found a picture of a tervueren in a big dog nonfiction book edited by Sir Richard Glyn. That was it!

 But it was not until the next year we had a chance to have our own Belgian Shepherd as we moved to our own home. We wanted it to be a male tervueren. Unfortunately not a single tervueren litter was born that year. Therefore our only choice was to have a groenendael. There were only two female puppies available at the moment, one in Kuopio and another one in Kouvola. Kouvola was nearer to Tampere so we reserved the puppy in SOKERIKUONON kennel. And so on Sunday October the 5th 1980 moved in an eight-week old black groenendael puppy called ”Riuska” (SOKERIKUONON BRIAROSA). She won over our hearts and became not only our faithful friend and companion but also the first female of our WINTERGAME  kennel.

 The thought about a male dog still smoldered and so on early spring in 1981 we reserved a male groenendael puppy in VALKOHAMPAAN kennel. In July VALKOHAMPAAN CHAMPION ”Samppi” moved in. He was one of the most successful Belgian Sheoherds not only in show but also in working category. So, one Belgian leads to another and another and….

 Our first tervueren, ”Veera” (FRANCY DU PARC DU PATHYVEL) was brought from France in co-operation with SOKERIKUONON  and  BELGELEEN  kennels in 1990. Veera was the mother of our first tervueren litter.

 As a dog breed Belgian Shepherd has satisfield all our expectations. It is not only a good-looking dog but also a versatile working dog. We have had all kinds of activities with our Belgians: shows, obedience trials, sled-dog racing, agility, resque and working dog activity. Especially the working dog activity (competitions, judge tasks) have taken almost all of our spare time, so we have had only small-scale breeding activity.

  Our goal is to have at the same time a good show dog and a good working dog. We hope that our litter have given their families the kinds of feelings of togetherness that we have had with our own dogs - in competitions, trials, shows or just being a home dog.
